Equities moved in a narrow range on NSE
Reflecting a mixed trend, the S P CNX Nifty index opened at 1243.90 points, touched the day's high of 1251.15 points, and fell to a low of 1238.40 points before closing at 1244.05 points, showing a net small gain of 0.35 points from the previous close of 1243.70 points. The CNX Nifty junior declined by 17 points to 2024.55 points as against the previous close of 2041.55 points. S P CNX Defty closed lower by 1.75 points to 993.15 points from the previous close of 994.90 points. According to dealers among the current market favourite, software counters witnessed a decline while pharmaceutical and FMCG companies reported a mixed trend. Shares of cement and aluminium companies gained considerably on good buying support. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 21.35 billion, coming from the trading of 104.5 million shares in 329,342 trades. Debentures traded value stood at Rs 2.68 million. The exchange witnessed 533 securities advancing, a decline in 530, while 63 remaining unchanged. Ninety-two securities hit their price bands today, a NSE release said. Larsen and Toubro topped the list in turnover, registering Rs 3.19 billion, followed by SBI with Rs 2.41 billion, Reliance with Rs 2.23 billion, Telco with Rs 1.71 billion, Satyam Comp with Rs 1.44 billion, ITC with Rs 1.22 billion and Pentafour Software with Rs 1 billion. Other actively traded counters were ACC, Ranbaxy, Tisco, Hindalco, Sqrdsfware, Silverline, Zee Telefilm, Sterlite, Grasim, MTNL, Rolta, Satyam Comp, Dep, Infosys Tech, M & M, Digital Eqp, NIIT and BPL. The top five S P CNX gainers were Telco, M & M, L & T, Ind Rayon and Grasim. The top five losers were NIIT, MTNL, ITC, Reliance and Rel Petro. The total turnover on the wholesale debt market of the NSE stood at Rs 4.25 billion. UNI |
