American businessmen keen to invest in India, Kissinger tells Sinha

Former United States' secretary of state Henry Kissinger today told Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha that American businessmen were keen to invest in India.

In his meeting with Sinha, Kissinger appreciated India's efforts to bring the economy back on the recovery path.

The two leaders discussed various issues including the current state of the world economy, Indo-American relations and the cultural ties between the two countries.

Sinha informed the visiting dignitary that the Indian economy is on a recovery path and buoyancy in the economy is expected soon.

He said India had successfully weathered the east-Asian crisis and the general slowdown because of strong fundamentals and better management of the economy.

He said foreign investors' confidence was very strong. They have invested $ 9 billion in Indian markets.

Sinha said the government has taken steps to ensure that short-term funds do not go for long-term investment so that the capital investment in major projects does not suffer.
