Market@9 March: Day's report

The sentiment remained weak throughout the day on Thursday as speculators as well as investors remained net sellers. Barring a few, almost all counters showed a negative trend. The selling was mainly witnessed in software and cyclicals stocks.

Sensex lost 179 points to close at 5332, Nifty dropped 30 points to 1636.

For sensex, main loss came from stocks like HLL, SBI, MTNL, Infosys, and ICICI. ITC, DSQ, and NIIT however remained firm for major part of the day. Satyam topped the volume chart with a turnover of Rs 1016 crore.

Satyam, HFCL, Global Tele, Zee Tele and DSQ Software accounted for more than 50 per cent of total BSE trading volume.
