Market@May 9: Day's reportThe market opened lower as software stocks dipped sharply in the first five minutes because of a major fall on the Nasdaq. But sentiment improved during the second half of the day. Zee Tele was the first stock to hit the upper circuit. Himachal, Digital Equipement, SSI, Rolta and Silverline also hit the upper circuit. Other software stocks also recovered sharply. Sensex closed 110 points at 4573.54 and Nifty was up 20 points at 1384.70. Trading volume was significantly higher on both exchanges. Satyam, Global Tele, Himachal, Zee Tele and Infosys topped the volume chart accounting for 54 per cent of total trading volume on the BSE. VisualSoft touched its record volume on the BSE. BSE Sensex
