Market@May 24: Day's report

A sharp drop on Nasdaq badly affected opening prices of domestic software stocks. However, after a dull movement in the first half, values improved in the second half. Stocks like Himacahl Futuristic and Global Tele led the rally. Other software stocks also showed smart rally from their lows.

However, in the last ten minutes, ITC came under strong selling pressure and affected the sensex close. Meanwhile, other non-software stocks remained dull. Trading volume was comparitively low.

Himachal Futuristic, Infosys, Satyam Comp, Global Tele and Silverline topped the volume charts accounting for 53 per cent of the total traded volume on the BSE.

Sensex down 9 points at 3934. Nifty up 9 points at 1233.

Himachal Futuristic, Sterlite, BSES, Reliance Capital, HPCL, BPCL, Indogulf, Bom Dyeing, Amex Info, Aftek Info, Advent Comp, Cummins, Salora Int and Agro Dutch.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.9 per cent
ACC, Asian Paints, Century, Castrol, Visualsoft, Esab, LML, Padmini Poly, Cyberspace, Kesoram, Adam Comsoft, Filmcity Media, Balaji Ind, Omax Auto, Century Enka and Kin Honda.

Losers: Between 12 per cent and 7.9 per cent
Vikas WSP, Polaris, Corp Bank, Hinduja Finance, Frontier Info, Atcom Tech, Gramophone, Cybermate, Parekh Plat and Federal Bank.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 5 per cent
Pentamedia, SSI, ITC, Aptech, Hughes Soft, TV 18, Crest Com, Max India, PSI Data, Anco Com, Alok Text, Apollo Hospitals, Melstar Info and Jupiter Orga.
