Panel moots CBI probe against former BSE surveillance director

The three-member committee of the Bombay Stock Exchange investigating its former surveillance director A A Tirodkar's alleged role in leaking out market sensitive information has suggested a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry against him.

The committee also suggested to file a FIR with the police for alleged threats to BSE officials carrying out inquiry into the alleged leakage of market sensitive information.

According to sources, three BSE officials who are carrying out an investigation against the former surveillance director's role in reported leaks to four brokers of the bull cartel have received threats from the underworld to keep quiet or to face dire consequences.

The three officials have submitted a written complaint to the exchange and have asked for security for themselves and their families, the sources said.

The 10-member governing board of the BSE, meeting on Wednesday for the first time after the Securities and Exchange Board of India submitted its report on market manipulation to the finance minister, is scheduled to discuss the future path of the exchange after it was hit by one of the worst scams.

One of the key issues to be discussed by the board would be the role of the former surveillance director, who has been accused of leaking information to brokers members.

Tirodkar has been asked to go on leave by the exchange and appointed a committee to investigate his alleged role in leaking out market-sensitive information.

The committee has prepared its final report which will be presented before the BSE governing board on Wednesday, the sources said.
