Budget at 1100 IST on weekday for the first timeWhen Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha will present the Union Budget for 2001-2002 on February 28 in Lok Sabha, it will be the first time that it is being presented in the morning on a weekday and that too at 1100 IST. In 1999 too, it was presented at 1100 IST by Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha but it was a Saturday and a special sitting had been convened exclusively for the presentation of the Budget on the government's request. It was also in 1999 for the first time that the BJP-led government deviated from the established practice of presenting the Budget in the evening at 1700 IST, which had been followed ever since the first Budget was presented after India got independence in 1947. Last year, Sinha presented the Budget at 1400 IST on February 29, a Tuesday. On February 28, the Question Hour is being suspended to enable Sinha to make the speech.
