HC keeps pending PILs on Balco till Supreme Court's decisionThe Delhi High Court, Tuesday, said the two petitions challenging privatisation of Balco would be kept pending till the Supreme Court decides the issue. The Supreme Court had stayed proceedings in Delhi and Chhattisgarh High Courts after the Centre had moved the Apex Court challenging state government's notice to it about cancellation of land acquisition order for the plant following its sale to Sterlite Industries. The sale of Balco's 51 per cent share to Sterlite for Rs 5.51 billion was challenged in Delhi High Court in two separate public interest litigations (PILs) by the Balco Employees Union and advocate B L Wadhera on the ground that a profit-making Public Sector company had been sold for a 'very low' price by the Centre under its divestment policy. A High Court division Bench comprising Chief Justice Arijit Passayat and Justice D K Jain, Tuesday, instructed counsel for the parties to inform it about the Apex Court's further order so that appropriate action on the two petitions be taken.
