Shahi for tackling distribution issues, revenue lossBS Economy Bureau Power secretary R V Shahi has called for continuing to work towards tackling the problems of distribution and asserted on the need to devise solutions for plugging the leak in revenues. After assuming charge on Saturday, Shahi, former chairman and managing director of BSES Ltd, said there was need to deliberate on means of motivating the various stakeholders in the power sector, including state governments, on ways to proceed with reforms initiated by the ministry over the last one year. Even though central control on many activities in the power sector is limited, Shahi said the ministry has to work towards lowering loss levels, which have risen from Rs 30 billion ten years back to Rs 300 billion now, officials said. Shahi, while briefing senior officials of the ministry and chiefs of Central utilities soon after assuming charge, said that in light of the problems plaguing the country's power sector, it was becoming untouchable for the industry. Shahi has replaced A K Basu who retired on March 31. This is for the first time that a chief of a private corporate house has become the Union power secretary. ALSO READ:
