BSNL revises pay-scale for 300,000 workers

BS Economy Bureau

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has decided to revise pay scales of its 300,000 group C & D employees by a minimum of Rs 1,500 a month.

The revised pay scales, to be implemented with retrospective effect, will result in an additional outgo of at least Rs 5.40 billion a year.

"The new pay scales along with HRA and compensatory allowances will be effective from October 1, 2000. Net minimum increase of Rs 1,500 per month will be allowed to each employee," said a BSNL press statement.

The revised pay scales comes after negotiations between the management and the joint committee of the unions representing the employees for evolving IDA pay-scales to replace the CDA pay-scales.

"The basic pay of the non-executive as on October 1, 2000 in the IDA pay-scale would be fixed at the stage corresponding to the stage which they had reached under CDA pattern on 30 September 2000," the statement said.

The adhoc payment of Rs 1000 per month being paid to the employees from 1 October 2000 will be adjusted against the emoluments thus admissible in the above IDA pay scales.

The company has also decided to revise the dearness allowance every three months as per order issued by the department of public enterprises. At present DA in IDA system is 28 per cent.

Arrears due to introduction of new IDA pay scales will be paid in the month of June, however, the adhoc amount of Rs 1,000 per month being paid will be adjusted from the arrears payable at the time of payment.
