Petrol pump owners demand review of PM's orderPetrol pump owners demanded review of government decision to cancel allotment of over 3000 petrol pumps and gas agencies, saying a handful of "political awards" will ruin the livelihoods of majority of genuine allottees. "We have sought an appointment with the prime minister today. We will request him to review the cancellations as majority of the 1135 LoIs (letters of intent) cancelled are of genuine and deserving candidates," president of Federation of All India Petroleum Traders Ashok Badhwar said in New Delhi on Wednesday. Threatening to take legal recourse if allotments to genuine candidates is cancelled, Badhwar suggested the constitution of a review committee to examine all the allotments done by the Dealer Selection Boards. The high-level review committee might comprise secretary level officials of the concerned ministries, director marketing of all the three oil PSUs and representatives of the Federation, he said, adding, "each case should be studied and if malafide intention is found in the award, the allotment may immediately be cancelled." "The government decision to summarily cancel all allotments has created confusion among the dealers as there exists no clear cut guideline for cancellation of LoIs after issue," he said, adding there was ambiguity in the order as to which allotments were being cancelled. The Federation also opposed the government announcement of auctioning the cancelled petrol pumps and gas agencies, saying "it would bring only rich and corrupt on the table."
