I have resigned for party work: Prabhu

Power Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday confirmed his resignation from the Union Cabinet saying he quit two days back on the directive from his party supreme Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

"My party leader (Bal Thackeray) wants me to work for the party," Prabhu told reporters on the sidelines of an international conference on energy conservation.

This is the first time Prabhu has confirmed his resignation. But he declined to say whether his resignation had been accepted.

Both Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and Prabhu addressed the inaugural session of the conference organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
