Reliance patriarch Dhirubhai Ambani dead

Dhirubhai Ambani: The patriarch is no more Reliance Industries Limited chairman Dhirubhai Ambani died on Saturday night after a 12-day battle for survival at the Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai.

He was admitted to the hospital on the evening of June 24 after suffering a stroke and was on life support system till the end, which came at 2350 hours.

The 69-year-old Ambani is survived by wife Kokila, two sons Mukesh and Anil and two daughters Dipti Salgaocar and Nina Kothari.

The body will be taken to his residence, Sea Winds at Colaba in South Mumbai, for darshan from 0900 hours to 1500 hours on Sunday, a company spokesman said.

The funeral will be held on Sunday at Chandanwadi crematorium at 1630 hours, the spokesperson added.

Ambani, hailed as the scion of Indian equity culture with over two million shareholders, the largest ever investor base for any Indian company, had suffered a stroke in 1986, which had left his right side paralysed.

Analysts feel Ambani's death is not likely to impact the markets, as his sons have successfully managed the reins of the family business for the past few years.

Celebrities, politicians and industry captains had been visiting the ailing Ambani since his hospitalisation.

According to sources, Ambani, during a recent visit to the US, had undergone a check-up at a Cleveland hospital.
