Maharashtra told to let CBI probe co-op bank scamThe Centre has asked Maharashtra government to consider handing over the cases of securities scam in co-operative banks to Central Bureau of Investigation. "Government of Maharashtra has since been requested to consider handing over these cases to CBI for investigation," Minister of State for Finance Anant G Geete told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply. He was answering Congress member Ghulam Nabi Azad on whether his ministry has been urged to accept the demands for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the co-operative bank scam. "During the course of discussion, in Rajya Sabha, on the subject of securities scam in co-operative banks, some members had urged to entrust the enquiry to the JPC as well as to the CBI," the minister said. Former Finance Minister Yashwant Singh had said the government would look into the matter with reference to the constitutional position on the subject as it also involves the state government.
