promotion of Microsoft platform. It also means a lot of leverage for Indian IT, other OS's don't just have any punch, other side
to it is Indians will not be creative enough to develop new OS. catch 22 !!

Your Views: Bill Gates and generosity!! They never go together. It is just a mask around his greedy intentions. The people who
support him, dont yet know the advantages of moving away from the Microsoft world. Indians have been working at Microsoft
since its inception. Why is this sudden love now? As the major software biggies like IBM, SUN, Oracle, HP, Cisco, etc
embraced Linux and most of the government agencies in US and India (federal and state ) moving to Linux and even private
companies are looking for a better system (Linux) and cutting the unnecessary costs using a buggy software like Windows and
its money-ripping licensing. Never before did he feel the threat than he felt now. So, he want to lure people by throwing some
money to a cause that will attract most attention. The people from the non-software industry, assume that he is really generous,
but BGates comes from a capitalistic world, who mastered the game better than anybody out there, and knows how to win it
by whatever means possible.SMKrishna, dare I call him "stupid ass", who happens to meet BGates for the first time, acted like
a layman from a village who happens to the city for the fisttime and announced that that Karnat

Your Views: Analysis: Mr. Gates is an excellent businessman. That he is the wealthiest, is a proof of the foregoing statement.
India is the second most populated country on Earth, with indications of becoming the most populated one. If the sole purpose
of Mr. Gates' visit was to combat AIDS, he would have donated in Africa which is in far stronger clutches of AIDs than India
is. Thus the clue must be found in "India". India has a lot going for it. Not only has India proved to be an ideal breeding ground
for software programmers, but boasts a fast-growing middle class with enough resources to buy a computer. Donating a
symbolic sum of USD 100M (knowing full well the publicity this would generate) and, locking an entire generation of Indians to
Windows is simply an excellent business instinct. Less than a USD per user. Not that this wrong of course. Potential rise of
Linux is also something that India has going for it. A good businessman does not underestimate his rival. Timely action was the
call of the hour and that is exactly what Mr. Gates is doing. Again, nothing wrong with that either, of course. It is however,
naive to think that it is out of generosity.

Your Views: Bill Gates belongs to America which is a commercial country. i.e. everything is related with commerce. Bill gates is
in India for the business and commerce purpose not for the social or charity purpose. Today India is developing as a huge
market in the world and America is one of the country which considered India as a big market for their products . In America
and other Europian market there is now no demand of such products but in India due to the incresed standard of living and
highest middle class families in the world ,there is huge scope of consumption of those products . Bill Gates knows the value of
this market that's why he is coming repeatedly here. India will be the leader in coming 10 years of the world market. and at
present "Buyers' market " concept is considring by all of the big M.N.C.'s of the world. Bill Gates and his company is one of
them . This is the strength of India and its peaople who attracts Bill Gates to come to India. It is the policy of the developed
nation's M.N.C.'s that use the resources of the third world countries after investing intial capital , explore the market there , sale
the products there, make the money . India should recognise its power

Your Views: Bill Gates is an altruist and a businessman. His vision to make computers and software cheap, and to put
Microsoft software on every desk at a time when technology was the exclusive property of a select few, created the
information revolution. It has provided India with its first great opportunity to be a world power. Before his generous financial
contributions, Bill Gates has already given India so much. The recent contributions are just icing on the cake. Sure, the cynics
will say, "his business profits from this." Why not! A fair exchange of value for value is no sin! But personal profits hardly mean
anything to Gates anymore. He has more than he or his heirs will ever need. So he is simply giving it away! If this isn't altruism
what is? Sure, the cynics will say, "Gates did not create the information revolution, he simply benefited from the circumstances."
Really? The same circumstances were available to a billion other humans. He did something special with the circumstances.
Anything but the greatest graciousness shown to Gates would be a disgrace for India. I am proud of the majority of Indians
who accorded Gates a warm reception. Prem

Your Views: Its a combination of generosity and business plan. For the generositypart, Gates truly made an effort to help Inidia
on some of the key issues. For business, he is just making way to curb the use of pirated windows in India, by trying to impress
the Government. Soon enough his view or need will be taken into account by the Indian Govt, and Software piracy laws will be
stricter. As a result Gates may soon be more wealthy. I only hope he keeps his charity work open even when that happens.
One more thing to add, I truly feel proud for his acknowledgement of Indian contribution to Microsoft. It is an
acknowledgement of India'e emergence as a Technical Super Power, while still being democratic, socialistic, secular republic.
One more word, what India achieved in 50 years is just the low end of the curve in its development. Our great country will not
be left behind economically or other wise in the next 50 years. In fact it may leave behind a lot of developed countries, with its
brilliance and diversity.

significantly and indian It sector might not make the big money in long term.in order to keep high quality, good performance and
reputation you need to maintain high cost.i am sure the way people are outsourcing from US to india and there is no anchor fo

Your Views: The purpose of his trip was mainly to ensure that the majority of the developers in India are brought over to
Microsoft's fold. The money that he's donated is pittance compared to the amount that he has to his name. Let's see, if I had a
100 dollars and gave away 40 cents how much would it really affect me if I could get that back in the next month. Not much.
Here's the catch - if I can make sure that a lot of people benefit from the 40 cents and make sure that I double the hundred
dollars repeatedly without anyone in the vicinity challenging me (read linux) for it. That about sums it up. I agree with a lot of
people on this list that the main purpose of Bill Gates' visit was business. I have listed my reason above.

Your Views: Bill Gates had two objectives : (a) To win Indian market and (b) To create an image of kinder gentler Bill Gates
and Microsoft. He used business as well as social generosity to make inroads towards that goal. There are two huge potential
markets - China and India. Given the fact that Chienese government is actively encouraging Linux, making it official government
adopted system, Gates has not choice but to push in India. Bill Gates could have spent the $$ anywhere, but chose India to
disguise the commreical aspects of his visit. Furthermore, such endeavors help create a more kinder, gentler image of Bill gates
world over, including in US where there are large number of Indians.

into an active philanthropist, and which is quite understandable given his social position, does that mean he should cease to be a
businessman and Microsoft Chairman? Can't we just accept that he is quite capable of doing both the things together, and
possibly do it effectively too. I find this whole discussion rather silly.

agenda. Like all businessmen, his agenda is to strengthen his business. And if that looks like hidden to some people, they are
just naive. Part of improving business involves better relations with the public which is what he is doing now. Is anything wrong
in that? Of course not! Does it matter to Indians dying of AIDS whether the money came from the man who killed Netscape?
Certainly not. Does it matter to some poor patient that some Linux fan is offended that his OS will be on its way out? No way.
We should stop 'branding' people and look at things objectively. Please stop making him an Angel or a Demon. He is a just
business man, and do business with him if it is profitable to your own business. Oh BTW - AIDS is really a serious problem in
India and very soon, India will have the most number of AIDS patients in the world. At least thank him for helping us (at least in

we look back and see what we were and where we are now. Don't you think indirectly "Bill Gates" helped to reduce the

who cares about India? Come on guy's give a room for broad thinking. May be some business deals behind the tour, but still
he is willing to help for India. What else you can expect from him. Look behind and ask your self how many people came
forward to help India as a non Indian and how many people came forward to help India as a Indian. If you think about it then
you don't even raise a question about his visit. Finally I would like to ask one question. How many people contribute at least

backsides. Of course there was a business angle to the visit as well. And what is wrong with that? As to the free software
model, many hard nosed and pragmatic businesses have invested a lot of money on information systems, whether based on
proprietary technologies or not. The free software 'movement' is yet to come up with a proven, sustainable business model for
development and maintenance of information systems which is superior to what exists today or what is on offer from companies
like Microsoft. Rememebr, Microsoft is not the only company in that space - IBM actually has a bigger slice with its mainframe
systems and all the related technologies. All the shouting is being done by people whose hatred of Gates stems from purely
irrational reasons. Personalised attacks on Gates have been on a scale unprecedented in the corporate world. Media the world
over has contributed substantially with their ill-informed and prejudiced opinions. It is high time the media does some research
and comes up with solid arguments. Ditto for the free software 'movement'.

is to show that humanatarian face of Microsoft, to create a general good feeling about Microsoft & its products among indian
customers. It is a very big marketing tactics. Phillip Morris a Tobacco company, donates so much money towards so many
organisations such as March od dimes, which help children to justify that they can sell tobacco. I am not against his investments
in India, as it brings jobs to India & he is also planning to bring Windows in Hindi, which does good as well as bad. The good
part is, it can educate people in villages & will encourage people start using Hindi, a far superior langauage then English, but at
the same time, once he has the monopoly indian companies will be controlled by him. Well I would say something is better then

Your Views: Well, Mr. Gates is a Business man and there is no charity in business. If he is ivesting 2000 crores, not to worry
he will be getting back 5,000 crores, otherwise he would not have invest. Life is as simple as that. Nothing comes for free.
Remember the Golden rule, it applies everywhere. You won't give, you won't get.
