I know the Ambanis want to be global players. Would you be content being just tops in the Indian market?

Mr Mahindra: Where do you see market for your car Mahindra-Ford, when there are cheaper cars in INdian markets available. NOw, can you tell me as a customer, why should I buy your expensive car which give me same comforts as Cielo, Maruti 1000 or Opel. How your car is different from them??

I have friends in HP who were so frustrated by the lack of pace in decision making and the absence of infrastructure that they moved their project to China. We seem to be champs in going one step forwqard and two steps backward. Is this the Indian way of doing business?

wow, its good to hear that your co is not in the recession cycle, although you ducked my query on government role. cool on another plane, are you married? what does she do? i am sure she is a knockout, hey? but tell me, is there role for a marriage in this century? over here, liveins are the rage? i am sure you studied abroad (which indian tycoon has not?), so how come you have gone straight? and, like most indian businessmen, are you a marwari as well? if not, a gujarati? if neither, i would be surprised

Another thing that bothers me is that Indian businessmen are only too willing to bend the rules to get ahead. This may be a consequence of the so-called license raj, but how willing are guys like you -- the men of the future -- willing to abstain from such calculative behaviour?

You are in constant touch with Indian politicians. One thing that bugs me no end is the babble of discordant voices that emrge abiout the future of liberalisation. Even the BJP speaks in multiple voices. I fear that we may revert back to the past, despite all this talk about liberalisation being irreverisble. Would you agree? I wish we were a one party system like Malaysia where things were more definite ane the economy was not hostage to petty politics.

Mr Mahindra, the last few years have seen the Indian markets flooded with products. It was a boom alright but has not really been indicative of stringent quality control. Why are Indians straddled with sub standard goods? Go to a Nike, Reebok...and there's hardly anything that catches your eye and worth buying? Why is it so?
