Maria (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:1 IST)
Mr Dhawan what is your opinion of Mr Sitaram Kesri as the party leader?
venkat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:3 IST)
Mr dhawan,hello
A B Khan (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:3 IST)
Don't make me laugh! Even Sonia cannot save your party. Tell me, RK, I know she did not care much for you iin the old days, but will she stand for election?
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:3 IST)
Ok Mr. Dhawan, What do you expect for BJP. How many seats are expected for both congress and bjp. In my opinion, these two parties are the best for the country and they must get at least 400 seats collectively to avoid the instability in the country.
G K Kaul (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:4 IST)
Hullo, Rajinder. Remember me, I had once come and met you for an appointment with Shrimati Gandhi. Never thought you would get into politics like your uncle Yashpal. Will the Nehru dynasty stop with Sonia? Or do we expect Priyanka to follow suit?
R Rao (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:5 IST)
A great party like the Congress ties up with an unreliable ally like the BSP. Is it not shameful? How did a party led by your mentor end up like this?
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:6 IST)
Mr. Italian, You should note that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is Indian today. Yet we admire her but that doesn't mean that India lacks talent any way. You must be aware that Indians are everywhere in the world including your own country and are contributing to progress of all these countries. One more thing, that bringing a girl from any land is always a matter of pride for a MAN. It is shameful for you people that she couldn't find a match there.
Italian (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:6 IST)
Mr Dhawan, are you shying away from my question?
A B Khan (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:7 IST)
Dhawanji: How does the Congress propose to win back the support of us Muslims? Many of us may give our votes to a party like the Samajwadii Party rather than the BJP/Congress? Do you plan to apologise for the Babri Masjid demolition or are you frightened that that will scare away the Hindus?
hkagnihotri (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:7 IST)
why congress is in a dying shape whom u r going to blame
Italian (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:9 IST)
Mr Gupta, sorry but the query was for Mr Dhawan. And FYI, at least in Italy we don't ask Asians to run our affairs. Christ, wasn't it only 50 years that another bunch ruled you? How can you guys take such stuff??!!
GOPINATH (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:11 IST)
Mr Dhawan: IS IT A QUALIFICATION TO BECOME THE PROMISE MINISTER OF INDIA THAT ONE SHOULD BE A GANDHI??
venkat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:12 IST)
Hello, is Mr R.K. D. still on the line?
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:13 IST)
Italian, FYI, the question was not proper for a chat like this. You must have asked some thing regarding politics without trying to insult anyone. As far as the situation for 50 years is an issue, any country may have to face black history any time. European countries were in a total dark when India used to teach civilisation to the world, but that's not an issue at this chat. As far as this matter is concerned, come to this cafe at 1130EST and discuss with 'softguy'. You will get a proper reply. Thank you and over for the moment.
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:14 IST)
Thank you Mr. dhawan for a nice reply to italian's query.
R Rao (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:15 IST)
You used to know Kesri when he was a mere factotum who came to prostrate before Indira Gandhi. Don't you agree that he was bad news for the party? Why then did you elect him last year?
venkat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:15 IST)
I hv failed to understand why BJP is being called an communal party while the real roots of all the problems -communal, social and more important economic are the wrong policies of the congress govt from Indira Gandhi onwards...Do u agree
G K Kaul (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:15 IST)
Who has been more detrimental for the Congress: Rao or Kesri?
R Rao (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:16 IST)
I see that you are getting touchy... I believe the Congress will get less than 12 seats in Maharashtra this time. It will even lose ground in Western Maharashtra.
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:17 IST)
Mr. Dhawan, will Mrs. Sonia be able to convince Miss Mamta Banarjee to work for Congress I. I wish that happens to improve your party's situation and save the west bengal.
A B Khan (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:18 IST)
Dhawanji: How does the Congress propose to win back the support of us Muslims? Many of us may give our votes to a party like the Samajwadii Party rather than the BJP/Congress? Do you plan to apologise for the Babri Masjid demolition or are you frightened that that will scare away the Hindus?
venkat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:23 IST)
Another issue I want u to give ur opinion is the future of liberalisation... whcih requires sacrifices from teh politicians...what do u see as the future of India a few decades from now and what sacrifices is congress party ready to do...
Rajan (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:24 IST)
How are you related to Kanpur?
S K Bhatnagar (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:24 IST)
What will be the issues the Congress will fight this election?
G K Kaul (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:26 IST)
Rajinder: Thank you for remembering me too. Please let me know what went wrong with the Congress in recent years. How did it lose touch with the people? Was it because no one from the Family was in charge? Do you believe that only One Of Them can lead this country?
A B Khan (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:27 IST)
Dhawanji: How does the Congress propose to win back the support of us Muslims? Many of us may give our votes to a party like the Samajwadii Party rather than the BJP/Congress? Do you plan to apologise for the Babri Masjid demolition or are you frightened that that will scare away the Hindus?
Rajan (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:31 IST)
Mr Dhawan which kind of language do you understand most ?
yogi (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:31 IST)
I entirely agree with you Shri Dhawan, only a Nehru/Gandhi can run our country. Various other people have tried in the recent past and just look what a mess they have made of things
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:33 IST)
Mr. Yogi, sorry to interrupt, do you entirely forget Shri L.B. Shastri.
venkat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:33 IST)
But Mr Dhawan , Constitution essentially represents teh will of the people and i think there is a need to review it once in a few decades... i think congress can raise this issue and see how the people of India react... I am sure it will be of great relief that atleast then teh country can concentrate on economic improvements...
yogi (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:36 IST)
Excuse me Shri M.L.Gupta, but who is L.B.Shastri?
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:36 IST)
Thank you Mr. Dhawan, but the current congress president Mr. Mitra in west bengal can no where be compared to Ms Mamta. Mr. Kesri has done all that damage for which you accuse Ms Mamta. I expect you to ask her at least once again to talk to Mrs. Sonia and compromise. My feeling is that she will surely do it and it would help your party and situation of west bengal.
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:38 IST)
Mr. Yogi, Sorry for your G.K. and knowledge of India's history for last thirty five years. Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri filled the vaccum after Pt. Nehru. It was only after him that Mrs. Indira Gadhi became prime minister of India.
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:45 IST)
Mr. Dhawan, would you like to give a rough estimation of no. of seats to be won by BJP and Congress. I wish that both of the parties should get at least 400 seats to avoid hung parliament and provide stability to the country.
Karl (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:46 IST)
MR DHAWAN THE CONGRESS WAS IN POWER WHEN THE BABRI MASID WAS DEMOLISHED WHAT DID YOU DO "if you want the country not to be divided on the basis of caste, creed and religion, if you want the country to look after all sections of society and if you want the country to give fair representation to women, if you want the country to have a say in the world affairs, if you want to have stability in the country," IS THIS IS YOUR ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION TOO?
LR (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:46 IST)
Mr RKD,My best wishes to you and maybe to your party for the new year. What is wrong with the Congress,is it totally devoid of leadership material, that you have to fall back on a RELUCTANT WIDOW to be your leader for this coming election or is it that you guys have played your last card, before total destruction.
venkat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:47 IST)
Going back to the topic of unfortunate death of Rajiv.. he lost his life due to wrong policies of the govt( read south block..or whatever the MEA is called)) ... the Jain commission report gives in gory details how Rajiv was taken for ride... IT was published in India today International edition.... So I thinkRajiv was definitely surrounded by cheats of the country.. eventhough he was a gem of a person...
LR (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:48 IST)
Mr RKD-You say about stability, please do not forget that it was your party that gave us the most divisive politician called VP Singh.
M L Gupta (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:49 IST)
Thank you Mr. Dhawan. We enjoyed such a live chat with you.
rajat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:51 IST)
MY BEST WISHES TO YOU FOR THE ELECTION RAVI
venkat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:51 IST)
Thank you Mr Dhawan and best of luck for the elections
Italian (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:51 IST)
Hey I missed a bit of the going on. What happened to my questions?
RR (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:52 IST)
Rajiv sacrificed his life for the country's unity? Why do Congressmen speak of their party's interests as 'the country's' interests ? When Indira Gandhi was assasinated, Congress swept the polls on the sympathy vote. When Rajiv Gandhi was assasinated, a dying (despite a Gandhi leading it) Congress managed to sufficiently tilt the scales to a near majority in the second round of elections. Obviously somebody wants the Congress to be in power very badly, Mr. Dhawan. And they are prepared to kill if sympathy votes can be generated on that basis. I don't necessarily mean Congressmen. Thats why one is worried about what is in store for Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.
Italian (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:53 IST)
All the best for Indo-Italian friendship, it will certainly go up now. When the PM of Italy Prof Romano Prodi visits you, guess the only person of importance is Sonia. At least there is no language barrier.
rajat (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:54 IST)
HOW DO YOU FEEL ,AFTER BEING GIVEN A CHANCE TO FIGHT ELECTON AND WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD BE THE POSITION OF CONGRESS IN THESE ELRCTIONS.
LR (Fri Jan 2 1998 8:54 IST)
RR-Is it a subtle warning to the poor Lady. But I cannot help agreeing with U that something terrible is in store for this woman. These congressmen will stoop to any level to have their last shot at the throne.
