Mr Hegde: What will be the future of the Janata Dal after the elections?
princess (Fri Feb 20 1998 8:28 IST)

Aakriti (Fri Feb 20 1998 8:51 IST)
Mr. Hegde, good evening. Don't you think you are wasting your precious campaign time out here? You could have addressed another public meeting in this time...

Hegdeji, What do you think will be the outcome of this elections ??
uds (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:20 IST)
Mr.Hegde, answer straight to my question.... Why all our politicians including you never think about India in 21st century? So selfish. (You are now in the BJP group because the UF doesn't consider you for PM.
dev (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:20 IST)
Hegdeji, sorry to say, but you guys can't run the country, so why don't you give the country to the USA on lease for 5 years. They can fix it and give it back to you.
Aakriti (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:20 IST)
Mr.Hegde, with your long political experience can u visualise the post-poll scenario? What will be the situation like? Now please don't tell me the BJP is going to get an absolute majority. I want an honest answer from the orginal "Mr.Clean"
Kannadiga (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:22 IST)
Swami Hegdeyavare, nivu ivattu answer madtiro athava ilvo? bahala tired agiro hage idira?

Mr Hegde, how 'bt answering the questions. Are u slow in typing? Ask some guy sitting beside u to help u out...
Meena (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:25 IST)
thank you, can you please name them?
Aakriti (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:27 IST)
Mr.Hegde, tell me 'bt the fate of Mr. Jaffer Sharief. A realistic assessment. I don't want to see that dacoit back in Parliament. Sorry if u have got any soft corner for him....
nunu (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:28 IST)
Mr Hegde Please tell us, who is going to form the Govt this time.
Indian (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:28 IST)
Mr.Hegde, Has the Sonia factor made any difference in this election??
Xavier (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:28 IST)
there already seems to be confusion amongst the bjp and the LS. the bjp is hell-bent on pulling down the state government, the ls would like the present govt to resign and themselves form a new government with the bjp at the head. what is the alliance stand on this issue?
ajay (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:30 IST)
mr hegde, why do you give the impression that you are frustrated? are you? i mean, you have been successful. been in power, been cm, cabinet minister etc. also, is there some specific way you handle the loss of power now that you are not in power?
common man (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:30 IST)
Mr. Hegde, let me congratulate for what you're doing to Deve Gowda. I am from Hassan, and have never seen a peaceful election in the pre-Seshan era. The goons obviously were Deve Gowda and sons.
uds (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:31 IST)
Mr.Hegde, what is your plan for our poor peoples? no good schools, no good drinking water, prices of food always going up, no homes...
ravikc (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:32 IST)
Mr. Hegde, I appreciate your taking time off you busy schedule to talk to us. In the last several days before the elections I watched as your party grew from defections of senior people from the JD. Don't you think your personal rivalry with the JD is affecting the chances of a secular govt. at the Centre?
Amit (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:33 IST)
you were trying for an alliance with both the congress and the bjp. why did you eventually opt for the bjp?
princess (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:34 IST)
Mr Hegde: Can you please give me a reply? I asked you a question about what went wrong with your political moves? How is it that the man touted as a future prime minister failed to realise his dream?
MBM (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:34 IST)
Is the BJP the most secular party?
common man (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:34 IST)
Mr. Hegde, I am not against COALITION governments as long as they do reasonably good governance. What I want to know is will the coalition be STABLE ??? Will Atal Bihari Vajpayee be able to take decision freely without drawing flak from the coalition partners themselves ?? Because, in most of the states, BJP coalitions function smoothly. Can you assure me that you will not unnecessarily rock the government. I am not asking this in a crude way, but I am scared like hell what happens to India if there is another election in 1999.
Rajesh (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:35 IST)
Mr.Hegde, this question is out of pure curiosity: All u guys & ladies (like Ma'am Sonia) say that u r stark clean, u have never been involved in embezzlement of funds etc. etc. But how do u afford to send your children study abroad? What is the "source of income" of Ms.Sonia (and prior to that, of Mr Rajiv) to afford to let their children study abroad?
MBM (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:37 IST)
Mr Hegde: We always hear of corruption in all political parties. Why is it so?
Sanjay (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:38 IST)
Mr Hegde: But why didn't you join the Congress party as the party desperately needs a leader of you stature? Isn't it?
Secularism (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:39 IST)
Mr. Hegde, I appreciate your sense of humour. But then this is the question I should ask you . Being with a 'demolition' party does not improve things for you, does it ??
Sunil (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:39 IST)
Mr Hegde: Please don't feel offended, Do you take BEER like your friend turned enemy, J H Patel, the chief minister of Karnataka???
princess (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:40 IST)
That is a very interesting comment you have made, that the present system the country has is not even democratic. How else will you describe it? And will you please answer this question of mine, unlike the earlier ones?
MBM (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:41 IST)
Mr Hegde: In the best interest of the country, what are your views on the party forming the next govt?
ajay (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:41 IST)
mr hegde, your family background? your profession? degrees? any special reason you decided to join politics? also belated congratulations for winning the assembly elections in 85/86 (after getting only 4 seats in lok sabha elections in karnataka in 84). do you get nostalgic over that successful run you had? is my question too long?
NUNU (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:42 IST)
Mr Hegde !! Will the new Govt. sign a tax treaty with the USA?
Kannadiga (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:42 IST)

there already seems to be confusion amongst the bjp and the LS. the bjp is hell-bent on pulling down the state government, the ls would like the present govt to resign and themselves form a new government with the bjp at the head. what is the alliance stand on this issue.
KARTHIK SUBBIAH (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:44 IST)
Mr. Hegde, how are we going to break this paradigm. All parties talk about communal harmony, but once the elections are announced, the first thing these parties do is to find out which community forms the majority in the constituencies and choose their candidates on these lines. How can we stop that?
Vijay (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:45 IST)
Mr Hegde, I always believed that you are one politician who stood for values. I couldn't understand Why you tried for adjustments with both the Congress and the BJP. Are you so frustrated with Deve Gowda?
Indian (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:47 IST)
Mr.Hegde, There have been instances of Congress withdrawing support earlier also, Why did JD go into a coalition with the Congress ?? I'm sure this time also, if UF has to go with Congress, they will do it. They are power-hunger politicians. Can do anything for POWER.
govinda (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:47 IST)
Cateism, regionalism or religion - which is the greatest evil for India? Do you ever see India disintegrating into several small countries?
KARTHIK SUBBIAH (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:48 IST)
Mr. Hegde, what commitment would you make to us, should the BJP come to power and you take up an office, that would change our lives significantly.
common man (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:49 IST)
Mr Hegde, I agree with your point that coalitions must be drawn up before election and the President /Constitution should not allow post-poll alliances which will just be opportunistic. Mr.Hegde, do you assess BJP as better than other parties?? Considering its stint in UP for six months, it supported Mayawati just like that. And the Maharashtra government is also doing smoothly.
Prashant Waghe (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:49 IST)
Are you going to participate in the BJP-led Government if it comes to power ? Or is it going to be Congress style support?
Imran (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:49 IST)
Mr Hegde: Will you blame Nehru's socialism for the economic disparity in our country since we never followed either socialism or capitalism?
govinda (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:50 IST)
If Jayalalitha could win 40 seats, then the BJP would sack the DMK government. If the DMK wins 40 seats and supports the BJP, then the bomb blast in TN is not the DMK's mistake. Is this principled politics?
spinster (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:50 IST)
Hi, Mr Hegde, most people think India is a hoax. Is there a reason not to think otherwise?
Satinder Singh (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:50 IST)
What's the future of us poor Indians if election will continue taking place every two years.
Kannadiga (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:50 IST)

MBM (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:52 IST)
Mr Hegde: What do you think the next government should do to take India successfully into the 21st century. Eradicate poverty and decrease the unemployment rate?
spinster (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:52 IST)
More population, more votes. Why should politicians care?
Indian (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:54 IST)
Mr.Hegde, When do you think India will come out of all these casteism, regionalism problems ??
Xavier (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:54 IST)
Come on, mr hegde, is this any way to talk about the man you are promoting as the next lok shakti cm of karnataka?
spinster (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:55 IST)
Mr Hegde, when do you think we will transform from CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE to CIVIL OBEDIENCE?
uds (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:56 IST)
Mr.Hegde, most of the politicians never mind about India's future, Then what is use of having this political system?
spinster (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:56 IST)
Politics means "Earn CRORES with out ANY Investment and stash it in Swiss banks"
princess (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:59 IST)
Mr Ramakrishna Hegde: No sir, I am not the one who you call Princess, but will that prevent you from answering my questions?
Indian (Fri Feb 20 1998 9:59 IST)
Hey this has been a lousy talk. It takes more than 5 minutes for Hegde to answer any of our questions. Hegde, why don't you take help of somebody there to type it for you, if you are not comfortable with typing.
KARTHIK SUBBIAH (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:1 IST)
MR. Hegde, what will be your commitment to us from you on behalf of the LK-BJP combine, that you would strive for if the BJP-LK and others form the government?
princess (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:1 IST)
Mr Hegde: But given the low voter turnout anyway, do you think disenfranchising will really deter our countrymen? Delisting them from ration cards will, or similar steps. Follow the Chinese example. Small families, give them everything. Big families, make life difficult for them.
ajay (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:3 IST)
Hegde, do you think the political dominance of Hindi-speaking states (especially UP) will ever end? How ? (Don't say there isn't)
paartha (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:4 IST)
Mr Hegde: I don't think incentives and deterrents will work in India. There should strict legislation and an autonomous body to monitor. What do you think?
princess (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:5 IST)
Mr Hegde: Why exactly did you and Deve Gowda fall out? Is it true that, as his camp says, you couldn't handle his success when he became prime minister, especially since you nurtured such ambitions yourself? Together you were just two much, and see what your fight has done to the Janata Dal in K'taka. Don't you feel sorrow at this, a lifetime's work going down the drain over petty ego clashes?
Secularism (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:5 IST)
Secularism is on it's way out (from India too ??) Mr.Hegde u should not have joined with BJP. Anyway all the best .Thanx and bye, or should I say 'jai shri ram ' !!!
spinster (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:5 IST)
Indian, aha!!! Politicians do nothing they are just parasites (on public sites); people do things.
Indian (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:8 IST)
Mr.Hegde how much did this election cost a tax-payer ??
KARTHIK SUBBIAH (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:8 IST)
Mr Hegde, do you believe that educated youngsters could change our polity should they decide to enter public life. What will be your advice to people who want to do so?
spinster (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:11 IST)
"The present electoral system is both expensive and undemocratic." All you got do is be a GOON in school, run the local mafia (several choices join Naxals, Dawood etc) become MLA, Graduate with honours to MP, reverse the alphabet to PM. simple. Indian democracy is a hoax? Any questions?
ganesh (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:11 IST)
Mr Hegde, You have branded BJP as communal in the past...why the sudden turnover ? Also, any email address where you can be contacted ?
ravikc (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:11 IST)
Mr. Hegde: Since you are talking of election expenses. (I can see reasons for your avoiding this question) Can you tell us how much money is spent on a candidate during an election?
common man (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:12 IST)
What role will you play in the Centre as a coalition partner, Mr.Hegde? What steps will you take to make amendments to the Constitution with regard to this Centre-state friction? The BJP has been promising more power to states in its manifesto. We've been hearing for the past three elections about this Centre-state tussle from almost all political parties. But the UF also did nothing to change it.
They also tried to misuse law to impose President's rule in UP which was scuttled by the president. The Bangalore Tata airport plan was scuttled by Mr. Deve Gowda and his crony, C M Ibrahim, due to personal ego problems. This is one of the most fearful aspects that worry me about coalitions. Each one starts using his muscle-power (call it numbers game) to contain his own ego.
paartha (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:15 IST)
Why can't the young, educated and intellectuals enter politics and drive these rats out?
paartha (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:18 IST)
Hegde is scared to face our piercing questions.
ravikc (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:18 IST)
Mr. Hegde, being very politically curious, I want to know what efforts you or your fledgling party have made to recruit new, clean blood into the party. I was there in Bangalore recently when you spoke near Kemp Fort. I found accessibility to you (or for that matter, any significant politician) was a big problem. That takes away a lot of people's motivation.
Mukri (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:19 IST)
Dear sir, can we expect a stable party this time. Plese elaborate your views on the current election results.
common man (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:21 IST)
Mr.Hegde: Under what circumstance would Lok Shakti support a Congress government at the Centre. This I am asking you because before BJP you were more keen on a tie-up with the Congress which was turned down by Kesri. Please elaborate on this
Mukri (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:24 IST)
Even if the so called 'leaders' spend half the time criticising others, rather than on the nations' real problems. I feel it is very easy to stride forward. What do you say, sir?
common man (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:26 IST)
Mr.Hegde, why do you call Kesri Shri Kesri. Yesterday, he said the reason for accusing the RSS for the Coimbatore blasts was, "I have been to jail during the Independence movement. Has Mr. Advani and Mr. Vajpayee done that?"
Next he will blame the RSS for his old age and him going senile. I wonder if he went to jail for pick-pocketing or some petty theft. And why do u have such high regard for the man who is responsible for this mess today ? Two governments down in 11 months. (though I do appreciate what he did to Deve Gowda)
Bharat (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:27 IST)
Hegde Bhai, Aap ka majority ke bare mein kya kahna hai? Kya BJP-Lok Shakti-other allies ko majority mil jaeegi?
Mukri (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:28 IST)
A simple question: Do you consider yourself as a politician! Or a person to serve! People.
spinster (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:28 IST)
Politicians are morally bankrupt -- some amass money, some resort to wire tapping, some join Verrappan... India is a hoax. The sooner we agree on that we can start reconstruction and reformation. The first step is admission, not denial. There is no more pride in being Indian, thanks to these (I mean all) scoundrels. God Bless India. Jai Hind. Too Sojayo Mai Jagoon ....... Ram kare ..............
KARTHIK SUBBIAH (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:29 IST)
Mr. Hegde, about Indians living abroad, especially in the US, their average income is much higher than the ave. income of even Americans themselves. It means that they are doing extremely well here. Does this loss of brain bother you? What do you suggest to solve this? I mean, the brain drain. Do you think that our system is to be blamed? Would you try and change this situation?
uds (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:29 IST)
Mr.Hegde, what is the problem in going for Dual-Citizenship for Indians?
overtaker (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:30 IST)
I had thought you were the ideal choice in place of Mr Gowda. How did you slip the chance? Gowda was identified by you. How many seats do you expect in Karnataka?
paartha (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:32 IST)
Dear Mr Hegde, all said and done, we do have a lot of problems in India. I live in the UK and what has struck me the most is the lack of sincerity and commitment to our work among us Indians, leading to corruption. What are political parties doing about this moral bankruptcy?
Dr Rachuri Sudarsan (Fri Feb 20 1998 10:33 IST)
India is a great nation etc etc ... But why India is not doing well in any respect. It is very ironical to see that we produce good engineers, doctors ... but not a good statesman. Also we are not able to accommodate the bright people we produce.
You have been in politics (a dirty game) for long and you have seen lots of ups/downs, good/bad, so please tell me what is the current problem in India, why are we in this situation and what is the remedy?
sanjiv (Fri Feb 20 1998 11:2 IST)
Mr Hegde: Why would you allow JD men in your party without them officially leaving the JD? This is not politics that an ideal politician like you preaches?
