The numbers, as Rediff informed us, just don't add up. How do you hope to get 272 people considering that you have only 143 people now?

Fine Kalmadiji. But how would you justify Kesri's action?

How are you going to rectify the damage done to India internationally by your party's juvenile stand?

Ravi: The pre alliance or the post alliance is always in context of who forms the government first. At that time a pre poll alliance is considered as a first choice. If that does not happen then a post poll alliance is considered for stability and to avoid fresh elections.

Thank you, Mr Kalmadi. But how about being a little more specific- for instance, who are the people who feel there is a shortcut? And what is this shortcut they are talking about? And could you elaborate on, to quote what you said, "The younger leadership in the party must be thrown up."

Manekchand: The congress party can have temporary setbacks. But it still remains the only party which is spread all over the country and it represents the weaker sections of society. You win some, you lose some elections. But we are there to stay.

Keeping the present context in mind, what are Narasimha Rao's plans?

Manekchand: There is no question of blind faith. As I said we are waiting for him to give us a gameplan at this stage. There are still four days to go. There is hard bargaining going between the UF and the Congress. There is a dialogue open by many people. We do not at this stage want to say anything which would be deterimental to the interest of the party.

Don't you think Kesri's action has been against the nation's interests. We, the Indians settled in the west, are afraid that Congress is opportunist and power hungry. Will the younger generation leaders of the Congress like be able to save the 110 year old party from the 80-plus leadership?

Mr. Kamladi, I believe that post election alliances should not be recognised only pre election alliances should. It breeds power brokering .I believe the former is a violation of the peoples mandate .. What do you think ?

Tarini: Mr Narasimha Rao is quite active, he is keeping in touch with all of us in the party and parliament. And many of us look for his guidance on many issues.

What happens to Kesri if he loses his bid at PM-ship?

Tarini: It is not at his assurance. It is at the assurance of the CWC to support the UF from outside. Latter the same CWC took a decision to support the UF on a conditional basis. And today the same CWC has withdrawn the support. So, why blame Rao?
