First Look: Ilayaraja's first role

April 30, 2009 14:13 IST

What no other filmmaker could achieve in all these years, director SP Rajkumar could -- that of making music maestro Ilayaraja appear in a film.

Ilayaraja is present in an entire song in the Tamil film Azhagar Malai. It was a dream come true for the director and he thanked producer Sangili Murugan for helping him turn his idea into a reality.

The song is written, tuned, sung and featured on the music maestro. The song features him going back in time through some of the most unforgettable moments in his life. The lyrics take us down memory lane as he visits all the major landmarks like his mother's grave, the road that took him to his school and college, and the Banyan tree from where he used to write letters to his lover (who later became his wife). We see him going to the temple that was a part of his growing up years, and also walking barefoot to the Ramana Maharshi Ashram in Thiruvannamalai.
