ICC probe team to visit India
The head of the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit and a special investigator from the Australian Cricket Board will fly to India this weekend, to follow up on allegations made by the CBI into malpractices in cricket.
The decision was taken in course of a meeting between Sir Paul Condon of the ACU and Greg Melick of the ACB.
"Today’s talks were a private exchange of information and an update of current status concerning ongoing investigations into the CBI report," Sir Condon said at the end of the meeting.
"As a result, both Greg Melick and myself are going to India to seek further information relating to the allegations that have been made against overseas cricketers. The visit is being made with the full knowledge and assistance of the Indian authorities."
For his part, Melick said: "I have reached the stage in my enquiries where it is appropriate and necessary to speak face to face with the organisations directly involved in the compilation of the CBI report. I am working closely with the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit on this matter."
The two investigators will fly to Chennai on Saturday evening for two days of talks with officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. On Monday, they will then go to Delhi where their itinerary includes meetings with senior officials of the Indian Government, the head of the CBI and the chief officer of the New Delhi Police.
Sir Condon is scheduled to brief the media in London on December 15, at the conclusion of his trip. ICC officials made it clear, however, that at that pont, no announcements relating to individual players may be expected.
