CBI report on match-fixing well-written: Madhavan
Onkar Singh in New Delhi
Former joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation and now legal advisor and vigilance commissioner of the Board for Control of Cricket in India M K Madhavan said he planned to call the tainted players to give their explanation on the match fixing report submitted by the CBI to Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa last week.
"I do plan to call the players to give their
explanation but if you ask me when they will come, I
am not going to tell you. Presence of the media
would hamper my work. Since
most of the players who have been named are in Delhi, my meetings with them would take place in
Delhi," Madhavan told rediff.com.
Will the players appear before him? "They are duty bound to do so because they are bound by the directive of the BCCI," he clarified.
Madhavan informed that he had an hour-long meeting with two officials of the anti-corruption branch of the International Cricket Committee - Martin Hawkins and Allan Peacock - on Saturday.
"The scope of their investigation is wider. They are looking at the international ramifications of match fixing while I am looking only at the Indian angle," Madhavan said.
He refused to comment on the report submitted by the CBI. "I am legal advisor to the BCCI so it would not be proper for me to tell you what I have to tell the board," he said.
"I can tell you that I have gone through the report and it has been written very well," he added.
Madhavan said that he was confident of completing his work within the next ten days.
