Madhavan report on Saturday

K Madhavan, the BCCI's roving anti-corruption officer, is due to submit his report to BCCI president Dr A C Muthiah on Saturday afternoon.
The former joint director of the CBI, speaking to rediff.com on Friday morning, said, "I am due to fly to Chennai tonight, and will meet Mr Muthiah tomorrow to submit my report."
Madhavan, it will be recalled, had been given till November 28 for the submission of his own findings, after going through the CBI report and interrogating concerned players and officials.
Interestingly, though Muthiah told the media yesterday that he expects the BCCI inquiry commissioner to suggest punishment, Madhavan said he would be doing no such thing. "That is not my job, I am not suggesting any punishment for anyone. All that is up to the BCCI to decide. My job is to pass judgement on the players, based on my findings, I will be doing that and letting the board decide on the nature of punishment."
When this correspondent pointed out that Mohammad Azharuddin had, in an interview to rediff.com, denied any involvement with match-fixing and reiterated his innocence, Madhavan responded: "I have read the rediff.com report. However, I don't think I have any comments to make about what Azhar is quoted as saying."
In a related development, this correspondent spoke to CBI sleuths who had fronted the recent probe into match-fixing, in context of Azhar's denial. Azhar, it will be recalled, had according to the CBI report confessed to fixing matches -- which he then denied when Faisal Shariff met him on behalf of rediff.com. 'Denials mean nothing, we have enough evidence to nail Azharuddin,' the sleuths said.
