Prabhakar's release runs into trouble
The release of former Test cricketer Manoj Prabhakar, who was granted bail on July 17 by
the Uttaranchal high court in the chit fund case, ran into trouble after one of the sureties withdrew, police said in Dehradun on Thursday.
Preetpal, in an application before the the Chief Judicial
Magistrate, Nainital, on Wednesday pleaded he was
withdrawing his surety for Prabhakar as he was unable to
furnish a bond of Rs 50,000, police said.
Preetpal, who hails from Haldwani area of Nainital
district, pleaded before the court that he had agreed to stand surety for Prabhakar in the bail plea only at the behest of his
relatives and did not know Prabhakar personally.
The Nainital CJM had asked Prabhakar to provide sureties of two persons and furnish a bond of Rs 50,000 each following the Uttaranchal high court order to grant him bail.
Prabhakar, who was admitted to a private nursing home in Haldwani
following suspected brain stroke, is recuperating in a hospital, doctors said.
Meanwhile, authorities in Haldwani sub-jail have returned Prabhakar's bail order from the Uttaranchal high court, stating that the former Test cricketer was never in jail custody.
