Board of Control for Cricket in India president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Saturday refused to comment on former cricket star Ajay Jadeja's offer to withdraw his petition against the Indian government and the BCCI challenging his ban in the match-fixing case.
The former India all-rounder has offered to withdraw the case, now pending in the
Delhi high court, and sort out the matter amicably.
Jadeja had challenged the BCCI 's authority to ban him for five years from competitive
cricket because of his alleged involvement in the match-fixing.
"I am willing to withdraw the case against the BCCI and sort out the matter with
the board in an amicable manner. There is no point in spending money on the
lawyers unnecessarily," Jadeja had told newsmen at the Delhi Golf Club on
Friday.
"Since the matter is sub-judice, therefore, I would not be able to comment
upon the offer of Ajay Jadeja. I will go by legal opinion in this
matter," Dalmiya told rediff.com in Delhi on Saturday.
He, however, confirmed having received the offer in writing.
"I, as the president of the BCCI, have no power to deal with this matter directly
as it concerns the board. We have already sent him a reply on his offer,"
Dalmiya said.
According to sources in the BCCI, Jadeja made the offer after he was sounded
by some officials that the board may soften its stand if he withdraws the case.
