They probably see the quake as a heaven sent excuse. Why are we even talking about sick people like this? I mean sitting here in America my blood simply boils to see our long cherished game ,nay, religion being led to a slow death by these greedy, perverted corpulent beings who calls themselves human beings. Like yours, I have read several articles by people like Harsha Bhogle who feel so much for this institution called cricket, what it means not only to kids but also the aging, pot bellied fans, and what kinds of passions it stirs. I dont understand why is it that cement dealers, contractors, politicians and such unscrupulous elements run this game. If the ACB can think of our affected brothers and sisters in Gujarat, why cant the BCCI? I mean do they have skin or hides all over their bodies? What kind of leeches are they? Message:Prem, You have once again made it clear the point that Dalmiya and his bunch of yesmen are more interested in making a business out of the charity games rather than organising things from their heart. The people of Gujrat doesnt need any Dalmiyas or Leles to organize masala matches. You need a heart of gold and a love for our fellow citizens to get help organized. I am impressed with the extra step that the ACB took to help the Gujrat victims without making a hooplah out of it. Kudos to the Australian board and players for lending a helping hand when needed without displaying much fanfare. Message:Excellent points, Prem. However, as far as the response to the earthquake relief effort, its basically everybody in a power position thats been that way. All of the government, central and state, took forever to "assess the situation". Its the private organizations that have done the most. Our politicians, both in the govt and in the BCCI, don't care. If it doesn't affect them personally, they could not care less. The zonal selector system is a joke, but it is the same problem that is affecting us everywhere. Does the Indian cricket team play as a team? No, they are divided by language, religion, caste and a dozen other barriers. I think we should have the same movement as we had in World Chess.. let us have another BBCCI (Board of BETTER cricket control in India) comprised of people with sense and purpose, who are committed to improve the standard of cricket, manage their money better and be a lot more human towards causes like Gujrat. The author had either done substance abuse while writing this or he is certifiable. A bowler being aggressive is one thing, but hurling abuses and bringing batsman's mother while sledging is unacceptable. Don't you just get the feeling that they could be laughing at you and your ilk? Why should they take you seriously, mate? So then, what have you achieved with this "all fire and brimstone"? So that is what we need in Cricket. Indian Cricket. It may involve some pain but then I would think the pain would be well worth it. And it will NOT take a titanic effort, mind you. Dr AC Muthiah, Mr Ashok Kumbhat (he is an Accountant and a former president of the ICAI(!!), for heaven's sake, not a professional cricketer!), Mr J Dalmiya and Co do not play cricket for the country and get BCCI their moolah. (Nor do they manage it well enough, to make a finer point!) Sachin T, Saurav G, Rahul D & Co do the job. Well, most of it. The sponsorship money rolls in 'coz of these boys. Someone should talk to them to get out of this rut. Take the Indian Cricket out of this mess and put it on a more even keel. These accountants and industrialists and sundry businessmen have meddled disastrously with Our Cricket. It is time things are taken from their hands and given to the professional cricketers. Past Test players in both the governing body and the selection committee. People like you have the cricketers' ears. Message:Few days ago when ACB announced that it has no plans of participating in a charity match for the earthquake affected victims in India, I felt very disappointed. I felt ashamed being in Syndey. Just before the start of the second finals between Aus vs WI, when I heard about the appeal to be shown on TV, i thought it would be just like an xyz advertisement. I totally agree with you, the way ACB, Channel-9 and World Vision appealed to the public for donation is really very much commendable. I am sure many people and organisations would come forward to contribe for this noble cause. And back in India, the BCCI is still deciding !!! We have followed the Aussies on the technology on cricket, coaching, apart from various other things. Let this be the starting point and BCCI should atleast now start to think positively and practically and should come out with a plan which is implementable.

Make a note that BCCI is not an NGO involved in charity, The ACB and channel 9 could react fast as they have an oppurtunity do so since there national team is playing at that time. Unfortunately non-cricketing matters have put our national team out of action. Yet BCCI on their part has proposed a tri-nation series in Sharjah and promised a sum of Rs.20 Crore to the Govt. of India. Considering the practical difficulties in running an organisation in a large democracy like India, BCCI has done well uptil now when you compare it with other sports organisations. BCCI is one of the richest sports bodies in india and to get such a complacent attitude, on a national tragedy of this magnitude, is totally disguisting. The unfortunate part is that not even the players have come forward and pointed this out to the BCCI, and some of these players are powerful enough to do so. What can i say about BCCI, they on their part are in the business of making money. as long as their wallets are filled who the hell cares. Message:Hi Prem, Each and every one of your articles depresses me when I read about the people who are running the game. You wonder what and how much Wright can do? Why doesn't some of the high profile Indian players' revolt? I mean that's exactly what the players and the Australian Cricket Association (ACA) led by Tim May did and got agreement with the ACB. Surely, these Lele's and all cannot stand in front of the likes of Tendulkar. I mean fine the guy has done plenty for this country already in terms of making runs but what the whole country really needs is a administration body which creates a local competition which brings out and fosters players of calibre that can rise to international level. Then again this is India.....
Even after living in AustraIia for 15 years if I could only convince myself to start following the Aussies I'd enjoy watching cricket......

Message:What prevents the BCCI from donating all proceeds from the Aus-Ind series for quake relief? If they are really serious about doing anything, this is what they should do. I am just amazed by the petty minded opportunism by the Board (and Dalmiya) in trying to play Pakistan or organise more matches when ready solutions are available. Such oppotunism in the face of a traedy of this magnitude is a disgrace to Indian cricket - no wonder Australia and the other countries who rejected the idea of a quake relief tournament.
