2nd Test, 1st day at Port of Spain, Trinidad

** Ajay Ratra became the 243rd player to appear for India in Tests. He becomes the 30th player to keep wickets for India in Tests. Incidentally he becomes the second from Haryana, after Vijay Yadav (1 Test in 1993) to don the gloves for India.

** Playing in his 6th Test match, West Indian pace bowler Marlon Black was playing in his first home Test match since his debut in November 2000.

** The last occasion the West Indies went in with four pace bowlers in a Test match was against Australia at Melbourne in December 20000. Since then West Indies have played 14 Test matches.

** Shiv Sunder Das during his short career of 20 Test matches since November 2000, has now partnered six different players while opening India's innings. They are S Ramesh (19 innings), Deep Dasgupta (10), Rahul Darvid (2), Sameer Dighe & Hemang Badani - one each, and now Sanjay Bangar.

** The catch of Bangar was Junior Murray's 100th dismissal (97 cts + 3 sts) in 33 matches. However this tally includes one catch he has held as a fielder in two matches against South Africa in 1998-99. Murray therefore still needs one more dismissal to join three other West Indian keepers with more than 100 dismissals in Tests.

** Sachin Tendulkar (113 not out) playing in his 93rd Test posted his 29th Test hundred, thus equaling the tally of late Sir Don Bradman, who reached his 29th hundred, while playing in his 51st Test against England at Leeds in July 1948. Sunil Gavaskar, who holds the Test record of maximum hundreds - 34 in 125 matches - reached his 29th hundred also against the West Indies at Delhi in October 1983, while playing his 95th Test match!

** Tendulkar meanwhile, registered his maiden Test hundred on Caribbean soil. He was playing in his seventh Test match and 8th innings. He previous highest score in the Caribbean was the 92 he made at Bridgetown in 1997.

** Tendulkar now has a Test hundred in every Test playing country, with the exception of Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. His country-wise tally of Test hundreds are as follows: 4 in Sri Lanka in 6 matches; 3 each in Australia (in 8 matches), in England (6 matches) & in South Africa (9); 1 each in New Zealand (in 6 matches) & West Indes in 6 matches and 14 at home in 42 matches. He has no hundreds in Pakistan & Zimbabwe (in 4 matches each) and also in Bangladesh (1 match).

** Playing in his 51st away Test match, Tendulkar recorded his 15th hundred. He now has more hundreds away than at home. In 42 Test matches at home he has 14 hundreds. It was also Tendulkar's 21st hundred in 91 innings, while batting in the first innings of a Test match.

** The third wicket partnership of 124 runs was tenth 100-plus stand between Dravid and Tendulkar in Tests. This pair has now been involved together in nine 100-plus partnerships for the third wicket. Their only other 100-plus partnership have been for the fifth wicket.
