"Yuvraj a cross between Sobers and Pollock"
It is no recipe for a genetic concoction but that is exactly how the description of Yuvraj
Singh by the British media sounds.
"Yuvraj Singh is a cross between Gary Sobers and Graeme Pollock with a dash of Frank Woolley thrown in," noted cricket writer Henry Blofeld wrote in The Independent.
"Yuvraj has tormented England in this series. He is a wonderfully talented left-hander," said Blofeld as he singled out the youngster for India's superb run in the NatWest series.
Referring to his brilliant innings yesterday, Blofeld said, "he treated a deafeningly buoyant and exhilarated crowd to an extraordinary exhibition of stroke-play. He cut and
drove with withering power and orthodox certainty; he swiveled and pulled as if he was a ballet dancer who was playing with the audience and the fielders.
"The footwork was electric. Ball after ball screamed to the boundary and England had no answer. Mohd Kaif too was in mid-season form," Blofeld said in the write-up, which bordered on the poetic.
Yuvraj and Kaif rescued India after the side was teetering on the brink at 146 for five to guide the team to a sensational two-wicket victory against England at Lord's on Saturday.
