Factbox - India v England

Head-to-head:
Of 87 Test series, England have won 32 to India's 15. They have been particularly dominant on home soil, with 22 series wins to India's three. India's last series win in England dates back to 1986, when Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar were playing.

Since 1990, the teams have met in four series. Each time the home side has won. England won 1-0 in 1990 and 1996, while India redressed the balance in 1992-3 (3-0) and also won 1-0 in 2001-2. Leg-spinner Anil Kumble was the man of the match in the decisive first Test at Mohali in December, taking six for 81 in the second innings to secure a 10-wicket win.

Key players:

India - Harbhajan Singh and/or Anil Kumble. The two spinners give the touring side the variety that Hussain would kill for. Both were overshadowed by the seamers in the recent one-day triangular tournament -- India beat England in the final -- but should come into their own in the Tests. England - Nasser Hussain. Shorn of his first-choice bowling attack, his leadership skills will be under massive pressure against one of the world's top batting sides -- on what is expected to be a perfect wicket. England escaped with a draw at Lord's in May against Sri Lanka, after which Hussain bemoaned his lack of genuine wicket-takers. His option are even more limited this time.

Venue:
Lord's. Named after Thomas Lord, who helped set up the ground in 1811-14. Owned by the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club), it also the home of the International Cricket Council, the England and Wales Cricket Board and county side Middlesex.
