J & K avoid innings defeat

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Tuesday succeeded in avoiding an innings defeat at the hands of hosts Haryana in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group 'A' league match at the local Maharaja Aggarsain Stadium, Rohtak.

The visitors, needing 208 runs to avoid an innings defeat, were 229 for 5 on the close of the third day's play, with Dhruv Mahajan (42 not out) and Majid Dar (30 not out) on the crease at stumps on the penultimate day.

A 54-run second wicket partnership between V Taggar (39) and Kawaljeet Singh (41), third wicket partnership of 58 runs between the former and Ashwani Gupta (44) and the unbroken 70 run partnership for the sixth wicket between Dhruv Mahajan and Majid Dar were the highlights of the third day's play.

For Haryana, Gaurav Vashistha claimed 2 wickets while one wicket each was taken by Joginder Sharma and Aparajit Singh, Kawaljeet Singh was run out Wednesday is the last day of the four day match.
