Selective buying marks settlement ending; Sensex gains 16 points to 4645.81Share prices recovered marginally at the Bombay Stock Exchange on selective buying support from institutional investors at the last day of trading settlement today. The 30-share BSE Sensitive Index opened at 4629.45 points, slightly lower from the previous close of 4630.06 points, touched the day's high of 4650.75 points and a low of 4601.49 points before closing higher at 4645.81 points, up 15.75 points or 0.33 per cent over the previous close. The market witnessed narrow movement in view of end of weekly settlement as most of the players were busy in squaring up their positions, dealers said. Institutionalised deals were reported in ABB, Bharat Petroleum, Bank of India, Himachal Futuristic, LCC Infotech, McDowell's, Morpan Labs, National Radio, Nocil, SAIL, Shipping Corporation and VSNL. The broad-based BSE-100 index advanced by 11.05 points to 2089.86 points as against the previous close of 2078.81 points. Dealers said that the market witnessed steady movements after yesterday's sharp fall and likely to witnesse upward movement in the next week. It could not be confirmed from the brokers whether the foreign institutional investors were active during the day. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices rose moderately by 3.43 and 0.98 points to 480.90 and 183.85 points from the previous close of 477.47 and 182.87 points respectively. The BSE-500 index gained by 10.97 to 1423.29 points as against the previous close of 1412.32 points. Dealers said that market witnessed steady movements after yesterday's sharp fall and likely to witness upward movement in the next week.
