Market gets steady; Nifty remains at 960
Pivotals opened on a positive note, moved in a narrow range and closed slightly higher on the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the market sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty Index edged up by 0.60 points to 960.05 from 959.45 of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior moved up by 15.70 points to 1716.55 points. The S&P CNX 500 index ended 2.72 points higher at 666.94 points while CNX Midcap 200 index increased by 4.27 points to 592.35. However, the S&P CNX defty closed lower by 0.05 points at 783.40 points.
The total turnover, involving 91.29 million shares in 313,317 trades, stood at Rs 23.71 billion. The debenture traded value was Rs 3.21 million. Today, 525 securities advanced, 494 declined, 115 remained unchanged while 86 securities hit their price bands today. Among the top S&P CNX Nifty gainers, HPCL shot up by 8.02 per cent to Rs 196.05, Tata Tea improved by eight per cent to Rs 454.90, Glaxo hardened by 4.89 per cent to Rs 671, Ranbaxy gained 3.33 per cent to Rs 344 and Telco 3.01 by per cent to Rs 205.10. The top losers were: Great Eastern Shipping that fell by 5.26 per cent to Rs 19.80, HDFC 4.96 by per cent to Rs 2,300, IPCL 3.89 per cent to Rs 79.05, Colgate 3 per cent to Rs 173.15 and BSES 2.66 per cent to Rs 137.05.
