AP high court stays Hyderabad B-school land transfer

Email this report to a friend

The Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday directed the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party government against handing over the site where the proposed Indian School of Business is sought to be established.

Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh Dalit Mahasabha has filed a petition contesting the government decision to hand over agricultural land cultivated by farmers belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.

The petition came up for hearing and Justice K Chalameshwar passed the stay order.

The petition said the government signed the September 6, 1998 agreement with a consortium of Indian business bigwigs in a haste, without considering the adverse impact it would have on the poor farmers of Manikonda.

It also mentioned that several other petitions of farmers seeking possession of the land were pending before the government for a long time.

The government decision also got flak from political parties, particularly the opposition Congress, for "offering the valuable land at a throwaway price of Rs 2.5 million".
