Kargil success lifts sentiment to a new high; Nifty up 61 points to 1315.35
Share prices registered a phenomenal boost on all round buying support extended by bull operators and institutional investors, encouraged by the positive development at the Indo-Pak border, pushing up the S&P CNX Nifty to a 52-week high at 1315.35 points today at the National Stock Exchange. Mirroring the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty opened higher at 1254.10 points which was the low of the day, shot up to the high of 1318.05 points, before closing at 1315.35 points, gaining 61.35 points or 4.89 per cent from 1,254 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior rose sharply by 72.90 point to 2118.45 points from 2045.55 points while the S&P CNX Defty jumped by 51 points to 1054.10 points from 1003.10 points of the previous day. The S&P CNX 500 index appreciated by 42.05 points to 898.30 points from 856.25 points and CNX Midcap 200 improved by 30.65 points to 772.30 points from 741.65 points of the previous day. Total turnover, involving 145.91 million shares in 411,761 trades, was Rs 29.77 billion while the debentures traded were valued at Rs 3.72 million. About 985 scrips advanced, 141 declined, 35 remained unchanged while 213 securities hit their price bands today. UNI
