American film company to distribute Hindi film worldwide

Email this report to a friend

For the first time, a Hollywood giant -- Columbia Tristar -- has acquired the worldwide distribution rights of a Hindi feature film, Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi.

The film, which was released for exhibition today in New Delhi, is being distributed by Columbia in the nine distribution territories within the country and all over the world.

The music of the film has been released by Sony, which is a sister company of Columbia, and the film is being presented by the parent company, SPE Films.

A unique aspect of the film is that all those involved with the film, from the spot boy to the director is a newcomer -- including the heroine Rinke Khanna, younger daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia -- to the Indian film industry.

Produced by Tyger Films, this triangular teenage romance has been directed by Raj Kaushal with music by Vishal-Shekhar-Salim.

With the announcement yesterday that Hollywood giant Twentieth Century Fox and Indian animation group Ram Mohan-United Studios had joined hands to make an animation series for the global market, it seems the Indian film industry has finally succeeded in catching the eye of the global leaders in film production.

RM-USL will own 40 per cent of global revenues in television and merchandising in perpetuity -- valued in excess of $ 6 million in the initial years -- in the 26-episode Heroes of Mount Olympus, slated for worldwide release in June 2000.

The series, which already has an immediate and guaranteed market in many countries airing the Fox Kids channel, will put India on the world map in animation cinema.
