Wipro plans to double Japan businessLeading software company Wipro is hoping to double its business with Japan every year, following the visit of Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, company chairman Azim Premji said on Tuesday. Immediately after the Japanese prime minister's visit, Premji told newsmen, "We will continue to grow. His visit will help the business to double every year." He said the company had 22 customers and they were the largest Indian company in Japan. Nearly 700 employees were working on Japanese projects, he added. He said Wipro had set up a subsidiary Wipro Japan KK. Wipro Technologies established their presence in Japan in 1995 and nearly 10 per cent of its software exports of $ 240 million came from Japan. It had set up dedicated offshore development facilities in India for several of the clients. To overcome language and cultural barriers in executing business in Japan, Wipro has invested in Japanese training programmes and around a hundred engineers have already been trained in Japanese language platforms. "Wipro's long-term commitment to the Japanese market has resulted in our setting up a subsidiary company, Wipro Japan KK. We have invested in Japanese languages and culture training programmes to enable our software professionals to bridge cultural barriers. Currently we are partnering with over 22 Japanese companies such as DIR, Sony, NEC, Hitachi, Epson, Canon, Futitsu, BSI and MMS to provide it services," Premji said. The project undertaken by Wipro in Japan covered areas in Internet technologies, e-commerce, mobile commerce, embedded systems, ASIC design and telecom applications with the focus industries for enterprise applications being finance, manufacturing, telecom and technology. |
