'US has hinted at lifting of sanctions'The US government has indicated that the sanctions imposed against India in the wake of 1998 nuclear tests would be withdrawn before the September visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to that country, convener of Indian American Friendship Council, Adish C Aggarwala said. Aggarwala said IAFC members had met a number of senior Clinton administration officials, including Donald A Camp, director for south Asian affairs at the National Security Council and Michelle C Maynard, senior adviser in the State Department, on July 18. He said that the delegation had been "assured that the demands for lifting of sanctions against India will be favourably considered." "I am fully confident that all sanctions will be immediately withdrawn before the Prime Minister's visit," Aggarwala said in a statement.
