Balco stir intensifies; Chhattisgarh bandh

The day-long Chhattisgarh bandh called by striking employees of the Bharat Aluminium company, to protest against the privatisation of the plant, began on Friday morning.

Police said there was no untoward incident reported from any part of the state.

Some shops were open and passenger buses were seen plying, even as the indefinite strike by Balco employees entered the 14th day.

A report from Korba, where the plant is located, said shops and business establishments were closed.

The bandh call was given by Balco Bachao Samyukata Abhiyan Samiti along with Congress and other parties.

Elaborate security arrangement has been made to protect various installations, Korba police said.
