Star India names Sameer Nair COOAnusha Subramanian Star India on Wednesday has appointed Sameer Nair as its chief operating officer. Prior to his elevation, Nair was the executive vice-president (programming) at Star India, and was responsible for programming of all the Star channels in India. Nair will continue to report to Peter Mukherjea, the chief executive officer. Nair has been with Star India for the last 8 years and ever since has moved up the ladder steadily. He is one of the main persons behind the much talked about game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, and roping in Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on to the small screen. For Star, which was trailing rivals Zee and Sony till then, there was no looking back. Soon after, Nair launched several super hits for Star through Balaji Telefilms-produced shows like Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Khaani Ghar Ghar Ki. With these shows Star created for itself a dominant position in the 9-11 p.m. prime time slot. Nair began his career with the Star Network at Star Movies when it was first launched in India. He was in charge of handling ad positions and buying of movies. He then moved on the position of head of on-air promotions and presentations and then to programming. In 1999 he was made the head of programming. Prior to beginning his stint at Star India, Nair was working with an advertising agency in Chennai. He has also done some ad films and documentary films.
