Super Lotto: The favourite among puntersRakesh P Sharma & Anusha Subramanian The fairly flat trends in the stock markets and the sideways movements are inducing the brokers to shift focus to other money-making avenues. And the punters who are fast succumbing to the online lottery fever keep another appointment with luck by playing the Playwin Infrawest Sikkim Super Lotto, the online lottery game. Jayesh Shah (name changed), a stock market broker, who recently picked up more than 1,000 tickets at the last Playwin draw, said: "Since we have the liberty to choose the numbers of our choice, with the blessings of Lakshmi (the goddess of wealth) good luck can also come our way. There is nothing much happening in the stock market. What's the harm in using our skill somewhere else?" The lottery game is not subject to trading margins. Moreover, there is no Securities and Exchange Board of India norms looming large in the background and ready to pounce on those who circumvent laws. Kantilal Joshi (name changed), a day trader with a small brokerage house, said: "At least here, I don't have to look for directions from big brokers and then join the bandwagon. I can choose my own numbers and there is no restrictions on the number of tickets (unlike scrip-wise limits and exposure limits on the markets.)" Here is a game of speculation where the rules are laid down clearly and nothing is left for interpretation. That seems to be the best part of the game. Hemant Doshi (name changed), another market player, said: "At least here we do not have so much interference from regulators (read Sebi) which has affected our business in the past one-and-a half year." Since the commencement of the first online lottery in the country on March 5, over eight millions bets have been placed via terminals across the 14 lottery playing states in the country. Maharashtra tops the list in sales closely followed by Punjab. Dalal Street hosts the higher performing terminals with sales peaking between 1-2 pm in the afternoon and 3-5 pm in evenings, Playwin officials said. ALSO READ:
