Weak monsoon may damage crops in IndiaAdverse weather could be about to cause harm to some crops in portions of India a d China along with portions of Ukraine and southern Russia, a Weather Services Corp meteorologist said. "It looks like a heat wave for the next three or four days in central China, in the North China Plains," said WSC's Joel Burgio. Burgio said temperatures would climb to the 95 (degree Fahrenheit) to 102 F area, a level that could harm portions of the corn and soybean crops. The crops are entering their key reproductive stage of development making them vulnerable to damage from the heat, he said. In India, a weak monsoon was seen causing some threat to the soybean and groundnut crops, he said. "The monsoon has been weak during the past week," Burgio said. Burgio also expressed caution about potential weather-related reductions of corn yields in portions of Ukraine, southern Russia and Southeast Europe. "It will be hot with the highs from 95 F to 100 F in the corn areas and they also grow some sunflowers there," he said. ALSO READ:
