Removal of export QRs not to hit pulses: Maran

EXIM
POLICY

Commerce and Industry Minister Murasoli Maran on Sunday defended the lifting of quantitative restrictions on the export of pulses despite its shortage within the country, stating that it is necessary in the interest of farmers.

Commerce and Industry Minister Murasoli MaranExport will increase the production of quality pulses, which fetch a higher value in foreign markets.

For example, export of quality groundnut gets a higher price benefiting the farmers, he told reporters.

At the same time, any shortage within the country could be met by import of the commodity as at present.

Asked if problems of co-ordination between the various ministries were not hindering the smooth implementation of the Exim Policy, Maran quipped that the Central Board of Excise and Customs chairman K L Verma will reply to the question.

"There is absolutely no problem of co-ordination," Verma said.

Echoing Verma's view, Maran said all ministries including the finance ministry were working in perfect co-ordination.

"Earlier there used to be the problem of issuing of notifications. But now that problem is not there," Maran said.
