Wipro ties up US firm for security software techBipin Chandran Indian software major Wipro Technologies has licenced security software technology from US-based RSA Security to develop a security software product for the global market. "Wipro has licenced our technology to develop a security product for the global market," Surendra Singh, country manager, India and SAARC countries, RSA Security, said. A Wipro spokesperson said: "Wipro Technologies has an alliance with RSA to use its products while implementing our Websecure solution." Besides, Wipro Infotech has a relationship with RSA for distributing its products in India and integrating it with rest of the system. As per the agreement between the two companies, Wipro will pay RSA Security a fixed royalty for every copy of the software it sells, besides a one time prepayment fee. We are finalising the details of this deal," he said adding that the prepayment charge is for the technology licencing. He, however, did not give details of the financials of the deal. This product is aimed at addressing the security products market in the world. "This product will address segments like web security, general security software needs and encryption needs in the global market," Singh said. RSA Securities is also looking at working out similar deals with other Indian companies also. "Since the Indian companies are looking at expanding into the products markets, we think that there is a great potential for us. We are exploring possibilities of similar deals with other Indian companies," Singh said. RSA Security, the $280 million security and encryption software company, opened its office in India recently and has five customers in India. The company's customers are Infosys, TVS Electronics, Spice Telecom, Daksh and Bharti. Indian companies have been trying to address the global products market for some time.
