Meet Aditi Govitrikar, Bollywood's new hopeful

An impulsive 'yes' found Aditi Govitrikar working in a film.
Mrs World, model, mom. These are some labels to describe her.
Life, she says, has been kind to her. "Modelling happened when my
husband Mufi sent my snaps for the Gladrags Contest while we were
still in college. I won the contest." A plethora of music videos
and ramp shows later, Aditi made a quiet entry into Bollywood.
Unlike other models, she did not have to struggle for success or
roles. She first attracted attention when she appeared in
Govinda's music video. Next she replaced Aishwarya Rai in Hrithik
Roshan's advert for Coke.
She was to star in Gaurang Doshi's
All the Best, released as Aankhen in a cameo song, which
eventually was done by Bipasha.
After a cameo in Mani Shankar's
16 December, Aditi debuts in
Sushen Bhatnagar's Soch, releasing
August 23.
The actress speaks to
Arti R about her latest film.
About her role in Soch:
I play Sanjay Kapoor's wife, who is obsessed with her husband. She
is so insecure that she actually believes his colleague (Raveena)
is having an affair with him.
I liked the role when Sushen narrated it to me because it offered
a different kind of a start: a thriller love story. So I accepted
it. The character has many negative and positive shades. It is not
very often that a debutante gets such a meaty role.
I hope to walk away with audience sympathy by the end of the
film.
On her costars:
I do not have any scenes with Raveena Tandon, except for a dance.
But Sanjay was a lot of fun. He is very supportive; he also is a
prankster!
I am working with Amar Upadhyay (of Indian television soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi), in a
thriller called Dhun. Since both of
us are newcomers on the big screen, it was a lot of fun.
I also loved acting with Hrithik Roshan and Govinda. I spent three
days with Hrithik during the Coke shoot and they were simply
electrifying. I was very impressed by the fact that in spite of
having it all --- money and fame --- Hrithik remains untouched. He
is very confident. No insecurities haunt him.
Govinda is such a talented dancer and actor. It was tough to keep
up in his video and match steps with him.
On her transition from modelling to acting:
Modelling and acting are different mediums needing different
skills. Playing a character like the one in Soch was difficult, because I had to get
under the skin of the person. Besides, I am not a possessive
person in real life so this was an unknown feeling for me.
Nowadays, models are being accepted easily in the film world. Take
Bipasha Basu, Dino Morea and Arjun Rampal. For me, of course,
things are tougher. I am married, and have never hidden the fact
that I have a daughter.
On her experiences while working in Soch:
I love doing the song-and-dance routine. In fact, I am doing an
item song in a South Indian film whose promos will be out soon.
It's something you cannot do in real life --- running around
trees, singing love songs. *laughs*
But my favourite scene in the film is when I find proof that
Sanjay is actually seeing Raveena and I throw acid on his face. I
think Sushen is a great director --- he would always make sure we
were not overacting because the film that is about obsession, love
and murder, it is very easy to go over the top.
In fact, that is why I took on 16
December, which, unfortunately, released before my
debut film. I knew what my role was in the film. It seemed an
interesting film to be part of. Milind Soman and Dipannita Sharma
(also model-turned-actors) were also part of it, too. It's always
great working with friends.
