Manisha Koirala has joined GV Films, which is making a foray into Bollywood, as director.

Besides acting, Manisha will be involved in various aspects of the company's activities, such as film and television production, apart from being the face of GV Films, its chairman Mahadevan Ganesh said.

The actress said her new assignment would help her explore new areas of growth as a 'student and lover of cinema.'

Manisha said she was impressed by the company's record in production and distribution.

The company has signed up directors like Anees Bazmi, Mahesh Manjrekar and Joy Augustine for projects in the pipeline, she pointed out.

Manisha said her involvement in production did not mean her acting career was over. She is working in two films with Ram Gopal Varma, a Bengali film with Rituparno Ghosh and one in the South.

''I like the manner in which Ghosh presents women characters with their complexities. They are neither black nor white,'' she said. Besides, talks are on for her to sign one of the GV Films project as lead actress, she said.

Manisha, who burnt her fingers as a producer with movie Paisa Vasool a few years ago, said she had learnt from her mistakes.

The actress, who did a course in filmmaking in New York, said she was not yet prepared to direct a film. ''I need to learn more about handling the camera and scripting.''

Her new film, Akbar Khan's Taj Mahal, releases on November 18.
