PM sticks by 'no more elections' stand

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today reiterated that he would not go before the people again to seek votes.

''I have already announced that after five years, I will not go to the people again,'' he said in the Rajya Sabha while replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President for his address to the joint session of Parliament.

He said his government had sought five years to run the affairs of the government. To this, Janata Dal member Wasim Ahmed asked the prime minister, ''What happens if the government does not last five years?''

Vajpayee smiled and said, ''Tab main samajh loonga ki mujhe kya karna hai (then I will decide what I have to do).''
