India, Pak resume talks on Delhi-Lahore bus

E-Mail this report to a friend

Senior officials from India and Pakistan today opened talks to sort out the modalities for starting a bus service between Lahore and New Delhi for the convenience of passengers holding visas.

Technical aspects regarding the operation of the proposed bus route were discussed.

The main issues confronting the two sides are to identify the route and the frequency of buses to be operated on it.

They will also decide the fares.

The bus service will be of great help to passengers travelling between the two countries. At present, all Pakistani passengers have to travel to Amritsar from where they face a lot of difficulty getting seats in trains to other cities.

Similarly, the new bus route will be of great help to Indians travelling to Pakistan as they will now directly reach Lahore from New Delhi.

R B Bhapi led the seven-member Indian side while the Pakistanis were led by Ashraf Hayat, senior joint secretary in the communications ministry.

The talks will continue tomorrow.
