TNMMK to boycott pollThe Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam has decided to boycott the Lok Sabha poll in protest against the recent communal violence in Coimbatore. It demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the incident. TNMMK president Professor Jawahirullah said the party general council adopted a resolution to this effect at its meeting on Tuesday. The decision is also in protest against the 'false cases' registered against Muslims by the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the present Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam governments, the failure of all political parties to give adequate seats for Muslims, and to demand suitable compensation for those affected in the violence, he said. Professor Jawahirullah said a three-member fact finding team from the National Minorities Commission would shortly visit riot-hit areas. The Commission had agreed to send the team, which includes Reverend James Massey and Nemminath, following a memorandum which the TMMK submitted recently. He said a TNMMK delegation had also met the National Human Rights Commission chairman Justice Venkatachalaiah and sought his intervention in the matter. UNI |
