The margin of victory in 1991 was slim! Just 0.2 % separated the TDP and Congress nominees. In 1996, the TDP candidate had increased it to 1.24 % marginally. One of the rare AP constituencies where the BJP has made some impact. In 1971, the Jan Sangh candidate came in second; in 1989, the BJP's Venkaiah Naidu -- the runner-up -- won as much as 45.9 % of the vote. In 1991, however, this had gone down to 3 %; in 1996, it was even worse at 0.99%.
