Once of the few seats that have voted for a woman, here that honour goes to Ram Dulari Sinha of the Congress who won from here in 1980 and 1984. Since then, however, it has been firmly in the grip of the Janata Dal, barring 1996 when the Samata Party snatched the seat by a margin of 30,000 votes.
